Although I am quite an analytical person, I have often lived my life through the philosophy of "learning while doing" or by trusting my quick thinking abilities to "figure things out as they happen". Although we can never prepare for everything in life, research is the best antidote to stress. Improvising often works better when there is a solid foundation. I was able to achieve a lot at home with my 'just do it' attitude because I had that solid foundation; I had a subconscious understanding and feel for North American business, I had a tight knit social support network, and I was financially stable. Coming to Germany without speaking the language, without any financial stability, a social support network, or an in-depth understanding of European business culture shot my stress levels to the roof. My advice is: do not underestimate the value of researching, especially when you're working to tackle new challenges. Build a foundation as soon as possible, so you're able to focus on your challenges in peace.

Sometimes, I believe that we can be too wrapped up in our challenges and it feels like we have our head shoved into the sand. It's suffocating; with our heads in the sand we can't see the beach. I want to be able to recognise the times when the challenges are becoming overwhelming and take actions rather than freezing. In these situations, I want to make it a habit to look at the challenge at stake from different perspectives, and rather than freaking out about it, I want to calm myself down and focus on finding good solutions.

Trust the process, trust life
I want to keep doing what I believe are the right things. I need to believe that as long as I act based on my personal values, business will work out and life will too. If it doesn't, then in the process of trying I'll have learned new things; I'll be a better person ready to take on other, new challenges
